We had a late start to the day in New Zealand time, but a 0430 start in WA time, body a little confused. Brekkie and off to see our cousin. Our host came around and offered us bananas from their garden. Small and sweet so we now have a fruit bowl in the kitchen. They also kindly offered us their Auckland street map which has proved very helpful. We leave our accommodation and head back into Auckland as our accommodation is north of the city.
There is a very good road system here and it is easy to find our way around. Very good sign posts showing well in advance when our turn off is. As no one was home at our cousins, we went and looked up the church and reception venue for the wedding this afternoon. Sunshine met us most of the day and we found the climate to be very much like Tasmania as in lower temps but more heat in the sun. Very pleasant. We only took a few pictures today as we are a little groggy and more focused on finding our bearings and seeing what is about. We decide to return to our accommodation via a supermarket and ATM. The shopping area we find has a lot of Asian shops selling mostly food or food ingredients. We also notice most of the people in the area are Asian, strange that. The ATM popped out our first NZ dollars and off to the supermarket for lunch supplies. Noticed food prices appeared lower than Perth, apples about half price! After lunch we head to the wedding.
The church is very plain on the outside but wonderfully ornate inside, a pleasure to be in. The wedding service is only topped by the bridal party. As the groom is Scottish, kilts abound. The brides maids and bride are in full splendour, it is so good to go to a wedding. Lots of photo’s then off to the reception. This is down by the beach in a lovely location. The bridal party are welcomed by a traditional Maori greeting and then a haka. The spiritual feeling is amazing and a wonderful thing to be part of. We eat, drink and dance for the evening then return home for sleep with full tummies and tired heads. All in all a lovely day in NZ.
